Overview
The Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) regularly conducts the Ohio Resident Satisfaction Survey (RSS) and Family Satisfaction Survey (FSS) to help guide quality improvements in Ohio’s long-term care facilities. All Ohio nursing facilities and residential care facilities are required to participate. ODA contracts with Vital Research to administer the resident surveys and Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University to administer the family surveys. Both Vital Research and Scripps Gerontology Center work collaboratively with ODA throughout the survey project cycle.
Vital Research
ODA contracts with Vital Research, an independent survey firm, to conduct the resident surveys and ensure the confidentiality of all resident responses. Vital Research’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Training interviewers
- Scheduling resident interviews
- Receiving and processing facility census lists
- Conducting quality assurance monitoring visits with interviewers
- Analyzing data and providing reports
- Managing the Project Line
Scripps Gerontology Center
ODA contracts with Scripps Gerontology Center to conduct the family surveys and ensure the confidentiality of all family survey responses. Scripps Gerontology Center responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Receiving and processing resident representative contact lists
- Administering online, paper, and telephone family surveys
- Quality assurance monitoring
- Analyzing data and providing reports
- Managing the Family Survey Helpline
Results
The survey project cycle will begin in July 2025. All resident interviews will be completed by the end of March 2026 and all family surveys will be completed by April 2026.
Individual facilities will receive their results a few months after their resident interview visit. Both the resident and family survey results will be posted on the Ohio Department of Aging’s Long-term Care Quality Navigator website by Summer 2026.
