National Core Indicators - IDD (NCI-IDD) In-Person Survey

  Overview

The National Core Indicators (NCI) – Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) survey helps New York make things better for adults who get services from the New York Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Each year, OPWDD asks a large group of people across New York State to take the survey. The survey is not required. It does not change anyone’s services.

Vital Research is working with OPWDD on this survey. OPWDD will send letters to people telling them about the survey. Some people will get a phone call from Vital Research to ask them to take the survey. Not everyone who gets a letter will be asked to take the survey.

The survey happens by interviews that are on a video call. Interviewers from Vital Research will meet with adults on Zoom to learn about their quality of live and how they feel about their services.

The survey gives them, or a proxy respondent (usually a friend, family member, or staff who knows them well), an opportunity to share their opinions, feedback, and personal experience about receiving services from the state. For more information on NCI, watch this video:

Key Details About NCI

Here are some things you should know about the NCI project:

  • Participating in the survey is voluntary. Your choice will not impact the services you receive.
  • The interview takes about 45 minutes to one hour to complete.
  • The interview will be conducted remotely over Zoom video conference.
  • You can participate using a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or smart phone.
  • Your responses and information will be kept private.
  • If you need help taking part in the NCI project you can choose someone, such as a family member, friend, or staff to help you. Your care manager cannot help you because they assist with the services you receive.
